The Place de la Concorde is an octagonal square between the Tuileries Gardens and the Champs-Élysées. The square was designed by Jacques Ange Gabriel in 1755. At each corner of the octagonal square is a statue representing a French city (Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Lille, Rouen, Nantes and Brest). In the middle of the Place, between two fountains, stands the Obelisk of Luxor,a red granite column 23 meters high.
